Arguineguin is a fishing village on the southwest coast of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. Well-known for its sunshine and market day, Arguineguin has so much to offer. Don\’t be fooled into thinking this is a sleepy village, far from it. Arguineguin can party hard especially when it comes to the carnival, Fiestas del Carmen and New Years Eve.
Because of the idyllic climate and location, the village is very popular with Norwegian and Scandinavian holidaymakers, so much so, some even reside here for most of the year! With bars and restaurants offering everything from Canarian food to fiskesuppe and home baked danish bread, it\’s no wonder Arguineguin is such a hit.
There is a variety of accommodation in Arguineguin including hotels, apartments and villas. Some of them right on the beach front, others up in the Loma Dos area with vistas of the Atlantic Ocean. Accommodation right by the sea is the perfect place to be when Arguineguin celebrates the Fiestas del Carmen. Part of the celebration sees all of the local boats sail from the harbour to El Pajar, Anfi, Puerto Rico and onto Puerto de Mogan.
Speaking of the ocean Arguineguin has 4 beaches to enjoy. The main 2 are Playa de la Lajilla a natural pool, known to locals as Costa Alegre and Playa de las Marañuelas which is right in the middle of the village.
There are plenty of places to shop in Arguineguin, from specialist supermarkets to small boutiques you can probably find what you need after a walk round the village. BAEZ, Rocasa, and Happy Shopping are great for finding things for the home while El Verol Gift shop is the place to find unique gifts.
If you are lucky enough to be living in Arguineguin then there are several Hardware Stores known as Ferreterias. Ferreteria Tomas is right near to Las Marañuelas beach and they now have a specialist paint shop too, so DIY projects are made easier.
If you can\’t find what you are looking for, the well-connected bus routes or taxis can take you to nearby El Tablero Shopping Center or a little further to Atlantico Center in Vecindario, where you will find more shops and a cinema. Further up the island is Telde, which is where you will find IKEA and Las Terrazas, El Mirador and of course Las Palmas city.
Fancy renting a bike? You can do that too. If you are more of a casual cyclist then the coastal path to Anfi del Mar through Patalavaca is a must. This is also a really good walk if you are trying to step up your exercise game. It gives the best view of the rugged coastline and you will get some great photos!
